5 out of 5 stars After 20 years, they never stop entertaining us. . .   December 25, 2001

Sugarhill Gang, the ultimate in the "roots of Rap and Hip-Hop" take us back to when it all begin with this exhilerating anthology of their songs. From the traditional "Rapper's Delight" to other classics such as "Apache", to collaborations featuring the groups of the day, such as the Sequence, this album combines it all. No other anthology can take us through the roots of such a relatively new genre in music. This album will entertain even the most hardcore rap enthusiast, for it is the core of their dogma.

5 out of 5 stars Trendsetter   May 17, 2005

As one of the first rap songs , Rapper's Delight(1979) has a very definite place in music history. to say it was a trendsetter is an understatement. If you think of it subsequent rap was a crib on this song. It is one of the very few rap songs that I like.
And unlike so much of today's rap it has nothing dirty or violent in it , just a lot of funky fun. It brings back so many memories to lovers of the early 80's disco period. Just hearing the cool beat makes you want to get down and jam :
"see i am wonder mike and i like to say hello
to the black, to the white, the red, and the brown, the purple and yellow".
Some parts of the long rap song are really humorous and make you laugh ,others are just mellow and make you groove. But you will love every minute of it. I love it for the nostalgia value. Bring back 1979 NOW!

4 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved from 1st time I heard it in 1980   April 30, 1999

I have never really been a big fan of Rap, but in this case, it's the best. Back in 1980, I was working at a roller skating rink as a floor guard, the first time I heard Rappers Delight. When the song started, everyone went out on the floor and just started jamming. My sincere opinion of the song is, "IT'S A MUST HAVE ALBUM" in everyones music library.**********************
